Farm Stay Activities

An authentic experience

We pride ourselves on providing the most authentic farm stay experience for our guests. Activities are conducted by the farmers, with the farmers, doing chores that we do as part of our life on the farm.  Please note these activities are for farm stay guests only.

Milking

Our Jersey girl dairy herd is milked every morning, in one of the last remaining walk through dairies in Queensland. A ritual played out over 5 generations of Farmer Dave’s family, beginning over 100 years ago.

Far from putting on a show, we’re all about giving our guests a genuine dairy farm experience on our historic property.

We invite our guests to join our farming family at the dairy where you can lend a hand milking our cows. You might even sneak a peek at Kay separating the cream ready to process in the on-farm creamery. You’ll get up close and personal with our girls and see the full process from our farm to your fridge.

Milking happens at around 7am daily. Check your welcome pack for times and details.

Animal Feeding

The menagerie of animals on Tommerup’s Farm are fed daily.  Our farm is generally home to calves, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, and guinea pigs.  Get your hands dirty and join the farmers to feed the farm animals. Learn about how we raise our animals with the utmost care, providing the best quality food in the paddock to plate cycle on our farm.

Feeding times change with the season but generally feeding activities are conducted in the late afternoon.

Calf & Pig Feeding

Our pigs and calves are fed on nutritious fresh milk from our milking herd and skim milk from our Farm Creamery.  Squeals of delight can be heard from the pigs as the farm buggy arrives laden with buckets of milk.  Add to their joy with the smashing pumpkins ritual; a tasty treat for the pigs and endless fun for the humans!

Rock Hopping & Swimming

Duck Creek, situated a short walk from both The Cottage and The Homestead, provides a gorgeous private setting to enjoy rock hopping, finding the many different species of bird life and insects, or just relaxing with a picnic laden with local food and wine. If it’s a refreshing swim or perhaps something more adventurous you’re after, the Albert River is a beautiful spot to cool down. Pack a fishing rod or two – our property has 1km of Albert River frontage for those who like the challenge of fishing.  A little more of a stroll, but definitely worth the effort!
